Filox-R is a superior filter media composed of 75–85% manganese dioxide (MnO₂), far higher than alternatives like Birm (1% MnO₂) and Greensand (3% MnO₂). This high MnO₂ content enables excellent catalytic oxidation, often requiring no additional oxidants depending on dissolved oxygen levels. Filox-R supports higher service flow rates but is heavier and requires frequent backwashing to maintain performance.
